Welcome to Illinois State's Datatel Support website. Here you will find accurate and detailed information about every aspect of the Datatel Accounting System.
Users can connect to Datatel from any location, either from any PC or MAC on campus, or from off campus using the University's VPN client, which enables users to access restricted services from off campus. The VPN client is available from the University Help Desk's download site or by going to https://webvpn.ilstu.edu
To access Internet Explorer on a Windows 10 machine, you will need to search for it in the Start Menu. Press the Start key on your keyboard or click the Start icon, then type “iexplore” or “internet explorer” and Windows 10 will search for the program. Once you have it running, you can right-click the icon to pin it to your taskbar for quicker access.
Datatel's Newest Version is UI 4.6..
The most recent Datatel interface is UI 4.6, which includes several enhancements to the user experience. The primary user-related enhancement is the change to the Report Browser, which no longer requires users to scroll down to view the last few lines on report pages. This enhancement, as well as others, are detailed on the list of Datatel UI 4.4 Enhancements.
Web UI 4.6 is the latest interface to the Datatel Financial System. While there is little change to processes, there have been significant enhancements to Datatel's appearance and user functionality. Datatel UI 4.6 runs through your web browser (Internet Explorer) and requires no special software installation on your computer. Java is no longer required, eliminating version conflicts. UI 4.6 uses the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in which will be installed during your first login, if it is not already installed on your computer.
The Datatel Financial System now uses AD (Active Directory) authentication, making it unnecessary to maintain your Datatel password separately. You will continue to log into Datatel using your Datatel User ID, but you should use your ULID password. If you Datatel User ID is different from your ULID, you should use the Datatel User ID but the ULID password.
The most significant change with UI 4.X is that it is entirely web-browser-based. There is no Datatel software on your workstation. Otherwise, for the average user, you will notice a new cosmetic appearance, but the screens you use have not changed functionally.
Here are some of the new features that Datatel has delivered with UI 4.X:
Before launching UI 4.X, you will need to either disable all pop-up blockers or add the UI 4.X site as an exception to the pop-up blocker in your browser. Be sure to also disable any third-party toolbars that may have additional pop-up blockers. Instructions can be found on the initial Datatel login screen, in the Logging into UI 4.3 PDF, or you can contact your technical support staff.
You can read and/or print the following topic-specific PDFs.
